Hottness of Hair

More and more products are coming out lately and it's really got me thinking, "Are all these really beneficial to us?" I've been to the Philippines more than anyone could count & it's shocking how different beauty is viewed. Because this one is about hair, another blog will be up shortly about other beauty tips and more of my opinions are about what beauty really means.

My Hair
By products, I don't stop myself at the sprays & chemicals but also the tools we use to style our hair. I care about my hair probably more & more everyday because of me learning about all these things. I've only ever dyed my hair once and that was a mistake I will never make again. In the picture, you can see that the bottom half of my hair is quite a lighter colour than my top. Top is my natural colour which I will forever cherish. Currently, I'm trying to grow out my hair but obviously it's taking longer than I'd like it to.The reason why I say dying my hair was a mistake was because whenever I trying to curl that bottom half, it's almost impossible. My hair is so dead, it can't even handle the heat. Reason why I'm really rambling about this is that we don't want to end up like that old hag with such dry hair that it's almost ready to fall off with all those split ends now do we? Yuck. So that's why, especially in our teen years, we should really start taking care of ourselves, especially our hair. I use Pantene Pro-V Shampoo & Conditioner because I found that's what works for my hair.

Treatments
I use quite a bit of treatments on my hair. But the only best treatment I could use is just not using those heated tools especially hair dryers. For some of us who live in colder regions, like me, may not have that luxury of air-drying, but I highly recommend doing that. I bet cavewomen had pretty nice hair. Something I personally learned from my mother was that hot water can damage hair. I even tested that theory when I was in the Philippines & also here in Canada. Using cold water or even lukewarm made my hair feel awesome. Heat is just not a good element for hair. I minimally use hot tools mainly becuase my hair is naturally straight. But when I do use hot tools I always use a heat protectant. My favourite is Tresemme Heat Tamer Spray it's in a black bottle with a red lid/sprayer. People who prefer gels and such will obviously not like this. I absolutely love this bottle of goodness because it's a spray that is not hairspray. I've tried many that were like that and it may be good if you're going to be styling it after with a flat iron or curling iron but for just the hair dryer - it's the best. Plus it's vitamin - enriched, which is always a plus.

Another treatment I use is coconut oil. Yup. Oh natural. You wouldn't believe what kind of wonders this does. So normally, you get it in a jar but it's not liquid. I normally do this treatment on a Sunday which is generally my lazy day. Do this before having a shower. I split my hair into sections so I get every little bit. So then what I do is take a bit and put it between my hands to warm it up so its liquid. Then just lather it all over your head and when you're done, leave it in for about an hour, more or less, then hop in the shower and rinse it all out. I normally have to shampoo twice because it is oil. But I also have a shower on Monday mornings, so it usually gets all out by then. Your hair will automatically absorb this oil. You'll see results quite quickly.

Brushing your hair also can act as a treatment. The reasoning behind this is that when you brush your hair, your own natural oils come out and distribute among your scalp. So before you go to bed, brush your hair about 100 times or when you're watching TV.

Most importantly, eating healthy plays a huge part in any treatment of the body. Especially hair. Since hair is dead cells growing out of the body, whatever is in your body is going to show through your hair. This is proven through forensic analysis. They can determine what kind of lifestyle you lead by just looking at your hair. I love to eat mostly organic foods but the odd time, I will strike out and give in to french fries and other bad foods. I'm a vegetarian which, in my opinion, helps out with a healthy lifestyle. Improving your lifestyle, improves your looks.

Generally, I avoid teasing my hair and styling it every day because of the damage it already goes through (cold weather, hot water, products, etc.) But if I ever style my hair, I always take the necessary precautions to make sure I indeed have hair for the rest of my life!

Other important suggestions are using metal-less hair elastics or rubber bands and also trimming your hair every so often. I go every month or so because I don't get a lot of split ends. And also keep in mind that all of these treatments and suggestions are just what works for my hair and it may not work for yours.
